Michael Anastassiades and Flos celebrate the 10th anniversary of the IC collection with a special numbered and signed edition in 24-carat gold: a future collector's item! ''Inspired by ancient ornaments, which are admired for their cultural imprint, we chose a Gold finish for this special edition, a symbol not of luxury, but of eternity,'' explains Anastassiades. A timeless icon, IC is a refined, minimalist Lamp in the spirit of Art Deco. It features a Blown glass sphere balancing on a slender, sharply angled metal frame. A sophisticated, sculptural construction of light that explores the notion of balance. London-based Cypriot designer Michael Anastassiades explains: I came across a video of a juggler. He was spinning a Toy of balls, moving them around on his arms and down to his fingertips. And as I was fascinated by the magic of his art, suddenly the balls seemed perfectly still. I wanted to capture that precise moment. That was my starting point. The initials IC come from the codes that the English police use in their reports to define the ethnicity of the people they stop in the street: IC1 for a Northern European, IC2 for a Hispanic, IC3 for an Afro-Caribbean.It's a fun way of defining the different models in this collection. Michael Anastassiades: ''In terms of design, it's probably familiarity that has formed the basis of the IC collection's success. There's nothing more recognizable than a sphere and a straight line. Since its launch, the IC collection has been perceived as an archetype. A design that can hardly be associated with a particular era. A Lamp that exists today, but which we know will retain its contemporary character tomorrow and forever. After all, spheres have always existed, and the concept of balance arouses our curiosity.
